The Arbitration Court closed its sittings at AVestport to-day, decision on the disputed questions in tho cases of the Graniby and Dcnniston Miners’ Unions and the Westport Coal Company being reserved. In Holmes v. the Westport Coal Company, a special case was stated for the opinion of tho Court, whether the average rates of wages upon which compensation in the cause of action is based is calculated on the actual oarnings of the workmen during the preceding twelve months, or on time workmen actually ou the works during that period. His Honor said that as the question was a very important one, and affected not only this district but tho wholo of New Zealand, he would look into the English decisions ou the Accident Compensation Act, and deliver a written judgment. The Court leavos in the morning for Blackball.
