PERSONAL.
Mr H. S. Yickerman, of the PublicWorks Department, is ac present visiting Gisborue on business in connection with the railway. Mr Henry Morgan, of Gisborne, was amongst the successful candidates in the junior Civil service examination. Mr lan Sitnson leaves for the South tomorcw evening. A presentation of a pleasing nature was yesterday made to Mr It. Cole, late second assistant at the Gisborne school, and now headmaster of the Makauri school. It was made by the teaching staff of the Gisborne school, and took the form of a comfortable lounge for himself, and a handsome silver cake-baskc-t for Mrs Cole. The following letter, signed by Mr Bull and the whole staff, accompanied the gifts “ Dear Mr Cole, —We, the undersigned, your late fellow-teachers in the Gisborne school, beg your acceptance of the accompanying present, as a token of the esteem in which vve hold you. We heartily wish you all success in your present and in every future undertaking.” Gerardy, the 'cellist, expects to he back in New Zealand in September next. He brings with him a pianist and a vocalist from America.
Judge Batham returns from the South the end of the present week.
Mr E. Carr, manager of the Citizens’ Life Assurance Companv at Dunedin, has been transferred to Auckland,
