WATER SUPPLY

(Per Press Association.)

WELLINGTON, last night A report on the means for providing an increased water supply for the city, furnished by the City Engineer and Messrs Mestayer and Ferguson, was adopted by the City Council tonight. The engineers recommended an ! extension of the catchment area at Karori, and putting down another line of pipes from Wainui with the erection of a new dam at the latter place. The estimated cost is £230,000. The whole question was referred to the Finance Committee to advise as to the necessary action to put the report into effect. THE CASUALTIES. The Governor has received a cablegram from the Casualty Department, Capetown, stating that 3605 B. Stephens, of the Sixth New Zealand Contingent, died from enteric at Charlestown on the 10th inst. ; 4582 J. PI.

Wright, of the Seventh New' Zealand Mounted Infantry, died of enteric at Heilbron.

THE TROOPSHIPS

Advice was received to-night that the troopships Surrey and Cornwall left Aibany at daylight this morning for Durban.
