Tauhei ... 9 5 Craftsman ... 7 6 Geologist ... 8 8 Hinetapauriki 6 7 Victoria Cross 7 10

On her running at the Park last week, Tauhei, with 9.0, has been asked to carry quite as much as she is entitled to. Mr Danvers has raised Geologist considerably, but the son of Pounamu won his races yesterday in such good style that he must take a lot of beating to-day. My selection is ; Geologist ... ... 1 Victoria Cross ... ... 2 Tauhei ... ... ••• 3 Second Handicap Hurdles, H miics. Syivanus ... 11 4 Cronje ... 9ld ltodara ... 10 12 Tcha ... 9 0 The four acceptors should see the post, and a good race may be looked for. They may finish in the following order : Cronje ... 1 Rodara ... ... ••• 2 Syivanus... ... 3

Second Flat Race, 7 furlongs,

This should be one of tUe best races of the day, and a good dividend may be expected. Medallius ran a good mile yesterday, and won Avith a bit in hand. .Papatu, Waionui, A.8.N., and Hinetapuariki are also well in. Lobra, with 7.0, may also be expected to come to the front. They may finish somewhat as follows Papatu or Waionui ... 1 Medallius 2 A.B.N 3

Sunderland Stakes, I mile.

A capital handicap must be the verdict passed upon this race, and a good deal of speculation should-follow. If Geologist were reserved for this race, 1 should be prepared to follow him, but be may be Kept for the shorter events. I shall venture tho following : The Miner ... ... 1 Red Lancer ... :.. 2 Materoa ... ... ... 3

Rosclund Handicap, 6 furlongs.

My selection is: Ahiciti 1 Bob 2 Daphne Isles 3

Tyudtile should win, with Iketere and Saultina as his nearest attendants. Publicans’ Purse, 5 furlongs. Geologist ... 8 10 Paria ... 7 4 Victoria Cross 7 13 Cadeau ... 6 7

Rosiphele ... 7 8 Geologist should take a lot of beating in this race, and should meet with most opposition from Victoria Cross and Rosiphele. Geologist 1 Victoria Cross 2 Rosiphele 3

This event will depend greatly upon previous running, but whatever beats Red Lancer or The Miner should win. Victoria Cross, Craftsman, Destroyer, Medallius and several others are nicely handicapped and may get home — Red Lancer or Miner ... 1 Craftsman ... ... ... 2 Destroyer ... 3

There was glorious weather for the openins day of the Poverty Bay Turf Club’s summer meeting, which took place at Makaraka yesterday. The attendance was the largest seen at a race meeting in this district for the last two or three years, it being estimated that there were from eight hundred to a thousand persons present.
