UNIVERSITY SENATE.
[By Telegraph—Press Association.] Dunedin, last night. At the University Senate it was announced that the 1851 Exhibition Science Scholarship had been won by Matthew A. Hunter, 8.5. C., of Auckland. Tho Chancellor’s report was considered and adopted. It waS announced that four essays had been sent in for tho Bowen prize. The Chanceller, Vice-Chancellor, and Professor McLaurin were appointed to consider them. The question of repealing the regulation which requires a degree in arts or science as a necessary preliminary to M.D. degree was allowed to stand over. On the question as to whether junior scholars resident in other University centres should bo allowed to proceed.to Dunedin for the first year of the medical course, and bo paid on the non-residential scale, it was decided to strictly adhere to the provisions of the statute.
