SALE OF THOROUGHBREDS
There was a very poor attendance at tho sale of Sisterson and Mcßae’s tho-rou-hbred horsos yesterday, the reason no doubt being tbat very little notice was civen of the sale, and that stock sales were held at Waerenga a-hika tho same day. The few persons who wero present were there to look on, and not to buy. Of the twenty-four lots offered two only were sold, at prices aggregating lb|gs. ihe Loan and Mercantile Agency Company conducted the sale, Mr J. W. Bright acting as auctioneer, and the first lot led into the ring was a grey cob, eight years old, which was sold to Mr Carrington for b.|gs. A brown mare, five years old, by Hukatere, was passed at 9gs. The third lot was a handsome bay filly, three years old, bv Cracksbot, and was purchased by Mr Kingston for 12gs. The racehorse lyncdale, which is engaged in to-day s races, was next offered, the Cracksbot—Jewel addin 1- ' being submitted with engageTynedale looked at his best when led into the ring, and Mr Bright was not long in drawing a bid of logs. ln “ v °' guinea bids the price advanced to oogs, at which figure he was passed. Twenty guineas was the best bid for a four-year-old brown gelding by Cracksbot—Jewel, but this was not deemed sufficient, and the lot was passed. Lot seven was a bay golding, live years old, by crackshot Wild Duck, for which 20gs was offoied, 250 s being the reserve, the auctioneer remarking as tho lot was passed, There is not much encouragement for men to breed good horses, aud bring them here to get such prices ottered. Ihe remaining lots comprised geldings and fillies from two to six jeais old, by Crackshot, Strowan, and Hukatere, and were all passed. The entry that attracted most attention at the sale was a handsome two-year-old gelding by Strowan-Booby. Booby was purchased by Mr Mi Peie some years ago in Auckland, her Drcedin o being Castor—Gannet. The latter was out of Albatross, who was also the dam of Merganser, the New Zealand record holder for LV miles for many years. Ihe son of Strowan attracted a good deal of i attention from those round the ring and j was certainly a handsome-look.ng little fellow. There was hardly a fault to be found with him. and had he been offered for sale outside of Gisborne would soon have realised the reserve of eighty guineas placed upon him. Forty guineas was the best bid, at which figure ho was passed in. An offer of sixty guineas was privately made for the son of Strowan, but Mr Robson would not agree to come a pound below the, reserve figure. The horse was cheap at the price asked, and whoever is fortunate to securo him will get a bargain. !! A four-year-old gelding by Crackshot was jl offered on account of Mr Livingstone, and lj was passed ini si&toeti guineas beiug the It best offer.
