GISBORNE DISTRICT SCHOOL.
MR FRANCIS ROWLEY APPOINTED HEADMASTER.
A special meeting of the Gisborne School Committee was held last evening, for the purpose of considering the question of the appointment of a headmaster. There was a full attendance of members, Mr A. F. Matthewson (Chairman) presiding. No less than thirty-two applications were received for the position, coming from all parts of the colony, even so far south as Invercargill. The whole of the testimonials were read at the meeting, and after two hours’ deliberation in committee
it was unanimously decided to recommend Mr Francis Rowley, 8.A., first assistant of the West Christchurch School, to the Board of Education for appointment. Mr excellent testimonials, and if all we hear of him be true C‘“ m " mittee are to be congratulated upon the choice made. The school in which Mr Rowley is at present engaged has an attendance of upwards of eight hundred children. A communication was read from the Board of Governors recommending that Mr Morgan should be appointed a delegate to wait upon the Board and discuss several matters of importance with regard to the District High School. The Committee agreed to Mr Morgan acting in the capacity stated.
