ARBITRATION COURT.
(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, last night. The Arbitration Court gave its award in the tin-plate, etc., workers case to-day. The award fixes the hours of labor at 48 a week, minimum wage- Is lid an hour, all boys to be indentured for five years, preference to unionists. In the furniture trade case the hours in Wellington are to be, 46 per week, minimum-wage for cabinet-makers, upholsterers, chair and frame makers and machinists £3 a week, polishers and turnovers -4L 15s • apprentices to serve five years, and to be indentured ; preference to unionists. The hours in the industrial district outside to be 48 per week, with a minimum wage of Is 2d an hour, and Is 2d an hour to the classes given above. In the painters and decorators’ award the hours from September 1 to April 30 are to be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on five days a week, and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays ; May 1 to August 31, 8 a.m. to 4.30 p.m, on five days ; all boys to be indentured for five years ; preference to unionists ; the rates of wages for city and suburbs of Wellington not less than Is 3d per hour, with an extra shilling a day and travelling expenses for work done beyond ten miles from- the employer’s shop ; special rates for places beyond 15 miles from Wellington, minimum wages Is 2d an hour, with a special schedule for apprentices, the preference clause not to apply to the Wairarapa, and the Union Company and local bodies not to be aftected by the award.
