NAVAL ESTIMATES.

NEW CONSTRUCTION TO ABSORB NINE MILLIONS.

London, Feb. 15.

The Navy estimates amount to .£31,255,000, and permit of arrears in construction to bo overtaken. The new construction now proposod will absorb £9,058,000, consisting of two battleships, two armoured and two third-class cruisers, four scouts (which are a new type of naval gallopers), nine destroyers, four torpedo boats, four subiuariuo boats, with an increase in the personnel of 3875 officers and men. Twenty-five of the present ships will be fitted with modern armaments. A committee has been appointed to consider the best means of strengthening the destroyers and naval reserve, which is below strength. Naval volunteers will be re-established, and sailing-ship training will bo abandoned. No manoeuvres will take place in British waters, but a combined movemont on tho part o£ the Mediterranean and Channel squadrons. The futuro composition of the Australasian squadron will be discussed whoa tho Colonial delegates arrive in England for the Coronation. The army estimates amount to £69,310,000, providing for 219,700 ordinary army and 200,000 on near service.
