THE RAILWAY.
The following letter, dated February Ist, was forwarded the Hon. B. Seddon, Premier ; Sir Joseph Ward, Minister, of Railways ; Hon. Hall-Jones, Minister of Public Works ; Hon. Jas. Carroll, member for the district " Gisborne-Karaka railway : I have the honor, by direction of a public meeting held in Gisborne last evening, to forward to you a copy of the resolution arrived at at that meeting, and I forward herewith copy of report of the meeting, which contains the resolution referred to. Trusting that the .wishes of the meeting may receive your sincere consideration.”
To this the following reply has been received from Mr Carroll, dated February Bth :—“ I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the Ist inst.. enclosing a copy of the resolution arrived at at a public meeting held at Gisborne with reference to the GisborneKaraka railway; In reply, I beg to state that the wishes of the meeting, as published, will receive due consideration.” The following reply has also been received from the Publio Works Department, Wellington :—“ lam directed by the Minister for Public Works to acknowledge receipt of your letter of the Ist inst., forwarding a newspaper report of a public meeting held at Gisborne on the 31st ultimo, and in reply to state that the representations contained therein will receive the careful consideration of the Government.”
