PACIFIC CABLE STATION.

ERECTION OF BUILDINGS.

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) Auckland, last night.

Rapid progress is being made with the erretion of office and staff quarters in connection with the Pacific cable station at Doubtless Bay, north of Auckland. The buildings, four in number, are being erected in wood, and it is expected that the two largest will be completed next month. The total cost of the four buildings, with fencing, etc., will be about £SOOO.

It is possible that arrangemets will be made between the New Zealand Government and the Pacific Cable Board whereby one or other will undertake bolh to receive and to transmit cable messages at Doubtless Bay, and also work land lines between Auckland and the cable station, thus doing away with the necessity of employing two separate staffs, as” at Wakapuaka. No decision on the point will, however, be come to until Mr Reynolds, the general manager for the Cable board, arrives in Wellington a few days hence.
