CHEVIOT EARTHQUAKES.

MAN SUPPOSED TO BE BURIED IN A SLIP. A SWAG FOUND.

By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, last night. The men clearing a large slip caused by the Cheviot earthquake on the Bluff road unearthed a swag identified as the property of John Connor, a single man, aged 40, who worked for Mr Sloss, Cheviot, up to October 29.

Just before the earthquake he was at Port Robinson asking when the steamer Wakatu would leave for Christchurch, and was told it would not sail that day. He shouldered his swag and left, apparently for Mackenzie. He ha 3 not been seen or heard of since, and it is surmised he was caught in the slip while passing under the cliffs when the mass fell.

The body is expected to be found in the debris now being cleared.
