CHIEFTAIN RANGIUIA’S CONCERT.
An excellent concert was given last night oy Mr Bangiuia, assisted by other accomplished vocalists, with Miss Francos Butt aspianiste. There was a good attendarce, but it was not nearly ao large as it night have been expected, considering the excellence of the programme. Unfortunately one attractive item, the poi dance by Maori maidens, had to be emitted. The gentlemen singers were Mr W. J. Barlow and Mr Bangiuia, while the ladies who took part wore Misses Lorraiue Tansloy, Heany, Rauhina te Ngaru Tai, and Mrs Bangiuia. The first number was “ On Deck,” by Mr Barlow, who as usual whs most successful, and later on he sang “ Tell me, Mary, how to woo thee.” Miss Kauhina te Ngaru Tai sang “ The Old Countree ”; the vocalist has a sweet voice, but was very nervous. With more confidence the young lady should becomo a very popular singer. One of the chief features of the evening was tho singing of Miss Lorraine Tansley, who first sang “Douglas Gordon,” which was a great treat. In responso to an enthusiastic encore, Miss Tansley sang, “If all the stars were mine,” in which she was again heard to great advantage. In the second part Miss Tansley sang “ Why Must we say Goodbye ?” and for an encore she gave JAFiddle and I.” Each song was received tlwth' much enthusiasm, Miss Tansley ieing a gifted singer, whose naturally fine foice has also had the benefit of the best iraining. Miss Heany, the popular local /ocalist, sang “ Once ” and “ Sing to Vie,” being warmly applauded. Chieftain Etangiuia was in capital voice. He sang 1 The last Milestone,” giving “ Kilarnoy ” in response to an enthusiatic sneore. Next he took part in the vocal duet, “ Hark to the Mandoline,” with Miss Tansley, the vocalists having to respond to a very enthusiastic encore. The “ Tral-lie-lie-lie ” duet,- in which larata and Chieftain Bangiuia took part, vas a very pleasing item, the voices finely lending. The concert concluded with the enging of “ Home, Sweet Home ” (in laori), by Chieftain Bangiuia. Miss Butt the accompaniments, and also fayed the overture for the second part.
