THE TEMPERANCE QUESTION.

By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, last night. The annual meeting of the Council of the Congregational Union was resumed to-day. A deputation representing the New Zealand Alliance and the Prohibition League was welcomed by the Chairman. The Rev. H. Kelly said the deputation represented 12,000 voters in New Zealand, and on their behalf be extended to the delegates a cordial welcome to Auckland. Temperance was not a political question, but a great moral and religious question, and needed to be taken up by all. The Chairman, on behalf of the Congregationalists, reciprocated the welcome. All members of his Church were doing their best to bring about reforms in .the liquor traffic.
