DIVORCE PROCEEDINGS.

EXTRAORDINARY POWERS OF COURT.

[ Special to Times. | Wellington, last nighi

It is understood that when the Divorce Court next sits here a certain politician on the Opposition side of the House will be a petitioner against his wife for restitution of conjugal rights. Two Wellington lawyers will represent the parties in the proceedings, which will probably be heard in camera, so that the public will not have an opportunity of feasting on the details of tho event. Tho_ amended divorce law of last session seems to give extraordinary facilities for the severance of the marital tie. According to an eminent lawyer, if in such proceedings as those indicated the applicant is successful, but the respondent chooses to agree to the men application may immediately be made for a divorce, which the Court may grant without further evidence, other than that necessary to show that its previous order produced no results.
