By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Sydney, Feb. 7. The Surrey’s contingent are in excellent health and spirits. The Government will place the yacht Victoria at their disposal to-day for a trip in the harbor.

[bt telegraph, pbess association.] Ashburton, last night. Twenty-six men have been finally selected for the Ashburton section of the Ninth Contingent, and they are a fine lot apparently. One walked twenty-five miles to be in time. Fourteen are or have been members of volunteer corps. There were about seventy candidates. They leave to-morrow for Dunedin. Napier, last night. Eighteen of the Hawke’s Bay section of the Ninth Contingent left for Auckland on the Tutanekai this evening. Three men forfeited their places and were replaced by emergencies.
