CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE.

(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, last night

At the Conference of the Chambers of Commerce to-day a resolution was passed in favor of the restriction of postal contracts to services '.armed on under the British flag. Mr McAselberg (Masterton) read a paper on the working of the recent labour laws. A resolution was passed in favour of the early adoption of the metnc system of weights and measures. On the question of the army meat contracts for South Africa, the Conference decided to request the New Zealand Government to endeavour to arrange that a special provision should oe made in any future contracts, for the inclusion of suitable New Zealand meat, and that ample notice should be given in this colony before tenders close. Addresses were given by Messrs J. B. McEwan and C. R. Beattie, on the subject of new markets for dairy produce. It was resolved that the Premier be asked to make every possible effort during his coming visit to London to bring about the discussion of a basis of commercial union acceptable to the; whole empire, it was resolved that the various Chambers of Commerce be requested to co-op p ate with the Collectors of Customs with the view to ensuring that reasonable and uniform values are declared on all exports. The Conference adjourned till to-mcirow.
