FIRES.

By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, last night. Early this morning a fire occurred in the Criterion Hotel, Gloucester street. The place was gutted by the time the flames were suppressed. Very little was saved. Tho building was insured for JESOO in the Standard and £SOO in the London, Liverpool, and Globe. Tho total insurance on the furniture, nothing of which was saved, was £350. Dunedin, last night. A disastrous tire has occurred at Clyde, Pitches’ Commercial Hotel, a two-storey stone building, just newly furnished, being completely destroyed. Only the walls are standing. Had the wind been the otherway, half the township would have gone. There was no insuranco on tho furniture, but .£2OO on tho building.
