The Takapuna Jockey Club’s course has been responsible for many sensational surprises, says the Auckland Herald, but the victory achieved by Leo Delaval in the Hack Handicap on Saturday last puts all others in the shado, and with a dividend of £322 4s paid thereon the win of the little bay daughter of Seaton Delaval will be talked of for many a day. On the paddock totalisator only £1 was invested on Leo Delaval’s number, and the history attaching to the investment shows that a syndicate of four elected to put £i 5s apiece together and back the whole field. As matters turned out it was a lucky move, and though the unearthing of a winner in hacking the whole field is dovoid of much honour the fruits of victory (especially when the dividend to be cut up ran out to such dimensions as would no doubt taste quite as sweet to tho fortunate investors, as though they had found tbo successful one straight away.
