THE BOER WAR.

'By Teh graph— Press Association— Copyright London, Jan. 29. The feeling in the House of Commons is not hopeful concerning peace. There is an impression that tbe Boer 6 are specially anxious for an amnesty for ret bels, for money to re-stoek their farms, and the withdrawal of the banishment proclamation. Kruger, Steyn, DeWet, Delarey, and Leyds insist on independence. Fisher, \\ oimarans, Schaikburger, and Botha are willing to recognise British sovereignty. It is understood at The Hague that Leyds utilised Dr Kuyper to draw from Mr Chamberlain terms in the event of independence being waived. Tne northern blockhouses in the Orange Colony have been completed. Colonel Orr waylaid Yiljoen on a mountain bridle-path in a district swarming with Boers. It was moonlight at the time, and Colonel Orr commanded his surrender, firing simultaneously and killing two despatch riders, shooting Viljoeu’s horse, and putting a bullet into bis coat. Yiljoen and Adjutant Besters immediately surrendered. Lord Kitchener’s report for the week shows that the enemy lost 31 killed, 20 wounded, 322 captured, and 53 surrendered.
