THE LONDON WOOL SALES. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, Jan. 26. There is keen competition for all classes of wool, with a slight advance ; Westland 153, Ohoke Is 3d, Tauro 6d. The quantity catalogued to date is 52,089 bales, of which 50,301 have been sold. Canterbury sheep brought 3 9-16; Dunedin 3 5-16. The rest were unchanged. Hemp is firm. New Zealand is active. Good Wellington January and February steamer shipments sold at 34^. Rabbitskins: Competition is active, and prices have advanced a ]d. Copper: Spot, 48 7-Sd; three months, 48 1-8. Tin : Spot, 107£ ; three months, 104^. There is keen competition for all classes of wool at a slight advance. Westland -sold at 153 d, OhoKo Ls od, Tauro 6d. Tiie quantity catalogued to date is 52,089 hales, and sold 59,034 bales.

WELLINGTON, last night. The Department of Agriculture have received the following cable from the Agent-General, dated London, the 25th inst. :—Average prices to-day on spot —Canterbury mutton, 31d ; Dunedin, Southland, and Wellington Meat Export Company, 3.jd ; other North Island 3Jd. The mutton market is dull.. River Plate mutton is in large supply. The lamb market is quiet. Australian lamb is in large supply, but it is of very mixed quality. Next season’s New Zealand brands, other than Canterbury, sid, nominal. Shipments of River Plate lamb are increasing. New Zealand beef, hinds -1 Id, fores 3d. The slocks of New Zealand beef on hand are very light-, and firmly held. Supplies of American chilled beef are small. The butter market is steady. Light shipments of butter are expected Prices are unaltered. The cheese market is firm. New Zealand is giving satisfaction to buyers at 50s. The hemp market is firm. There is a better demand for hemp. New Zealand, good fair Wellington, £34 10s ; Feb-ruary-April shipment, £33 10s. The cocksfoot seed market is uuiet at 40s. There is no pressure to sell, and I expect no immediate change in the market,,
