The whole matter hangs upon the consent of the j City Corporation being obtained to an i exchange of land. If the site chosen is procured, the college will be one of the first buildings to greet the eye of the incomer from the sea. THE QUEEN'S STATUE. The Queen’s statue project initiated here immediately after Queen Victoria’s death, still hangs tire. Mr George Fisher, M.H.R. (“ Our George,” as he used to bo familiarly known), was once more defendant in the Magistrate’s Court to-day, being summoned at the instance of his wife for arrears of payment on a maintenance order. He contested the suit somowhat boisterously, and narrowly escaped committal for contempt of Court. In the end he was fined £l, and ordered to pay the fine and £4 arrears within a week, or go to gaol. Defendant said the money would be forthcoming during the day. UNRULY CONDUCT.

Horseplay on the part of some unruly members oi the Eiglit Contingent, now in camp at Trentham, seems likely to get the troopers as a whole into ill odour on the eve of their departure for tho Cape. Complaints have been made from several quarters about the uncouth behaviour of men in uniform in a half-drunken condition when journeying to and from the camp by tram, and yesterday a somowhat serious case of Chinaman baiting was reported to have occurred in a back street of the city. Three troopers are alleged to have been concerned in it. One is now in the hands of the police under arrest, and was remanded for trial till to-morrow.
