Court Cases.
By Telegraph—Press Association. Nelson, last night. At the Hastings Magistrate’s Court today Archibald Fairburn pleaded guilty, and was committed for trial, for the theft of a horse, saddle, and bridle from B. C. McCormick. The evidence showed that accused had hired the turnout on January Bth, but had not returned them, having disposed of the horse to a Gisborne man, and the saddle and bridle in Hastings. A case of a technical character was hoard against a sheep farmer, who wis charged with allowing 60 head of cattle to be without food or water. Evidence was given to tho effect that a consignment of 60 calves came down from Pabiatua, but as as it was dark and the Btation yards were full of rolling stock, it was considered advisable not to unload the trucks that night, as it would be attended with danger to the stock. They were therefore left until 7.30 next morning. The magistrate held that there had been technical cruelty, but it had been involuntary on defendant’s part, and dismissed the case.
Wanganui, last night. In the District Court to-day, at the second trial of J. F. Buckingham for alleged perjury, the jury disagreed and were discharged. A third trial takes place on the 7th cf next month.
