WELLINGTON RACING CLUB’S SUMMER MEETING.

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) WollingtQn, last night. The weather was fine for the opening •ay of the Summer Meeting of the Well.ngton Racing Club, but a high wind was blowing. About 3000 people were present. Speculation was not very brisk, but tho oookmakors appeared to do a good business. £9043 was put through tho machinos to day, as against .£10,743 for the first day last year, when the races wore held on a holiday. The results are :

Anniversary Handicap : Queen’s Guard 1, Goldmcre 2, Fleka 3. Also started : Indian Shot, Torowai, and Quiltina. The field kept well together until approaching tho straight, where Queen’s Guard took charge, and won under the whip by half a length. Time, 1.43 J. Divs., £3 Is and 12s. Maiden Plato : Jemima 1, Shrapnell Shell 2, St. Lyra 3. Also started : Frontier. Won oasil.y by a length and a half. Time, 1.44 J-. Div., £2 os.

Wellington Cup : St. Michael 1 Shannon 2, Melwood 8. Also startod Cannio Chiol. Melwood led for half £ milo, whon St. Michaol went to tho fronl and led the remainder of the journey, winning easily by four lengths. There was a good race for second place, Shannon gaining the verdict by half a length. Time, 2.38 1-5- Div., £1 7s.

Wollesloy Stakes: Orloff 1, Poi'irua 2, Greek Maid o. Dirk and Immersion also started. Orloff assumed the lead shortly after tho stare, and easily stalling off a challenge by Porirua, won by three longths. Time 48 2-asec, divs. £1 4s and £1 14s 6d.

President’s Handicap: Plaidio 1, Queen’s Guard 2, Rebel 3. Also started : Motor, Fashion, Taplow, Redoubt. Plaidie was in front nearly the whole way, and won by three lengths. Timo 1.57 3-ssec, divs. £4 11s and £1 2s 6d. Hack Handicap ; Laureate 1, Punawai 2, Waitoa 3. Won by two longths. Time 2min, divs. £3 6s and £l. Nursery Handicap : Achilles 1, Golden Vein 2, Ascension 3. All started. Won easily by three longths. Time 1.3 25, divs. £1 12s 6d and £3 17s. Tolegraph Handicap : Blazer 1, Canteen 2, Ringlet 3. Also started: Glenogle, Indian Queen, Sunfish, Ayrdale, Blazer Jr' was soon in front, but in tho straight he was taoklod by Canteon, and a good race resulted in a length and a-half victory for Blazer.
