The "Wreck of the Alexandra

By Telegraph—Press Association. Westport, last night. Captains Turner and Price returned from the scene of the wreck of the barque Alexandra on Wednesday. They state that the ship lies in an extraordinary position, with her head seaward. A small island, cone-shaped, about 100 ft high, is close to the vessel. The ship’s stem is about 30ft inside this island, and about 10ft beyond it. The crew threw planks across to the ton of the island, walked across, and clambered down on to the beach. A patch of rocks lies about 100 ft on the starboard side of the ship, and she rests on another patch amidships. These are right through the bottom of the vessel, which is full of water, 10ft at low water, with the stem dry. Amidships the frame has buckled up and the deck started, showing that the ship is broken amid-* ships, and the box rudder is bent. All the

spars are intact, with the sails hanging to the yards. Three boats are on the skids, and everything looks right on deck and aloft, but the ship is a hopeless wreck, and j likely to break in two with the first southj westerly gale. With the exception of the poop deck the ship is covered at high water, She was a particularly well found vessel in so far as ropes and running gear were concerned, and had ten months’ stores on board. The crew rigged up a haulaway line with an endless chain, and brought i the stores and personal effects ashore. Captains Ewan and Price recommended that the vessel he abandoned to the underwriters and sold for the benefit of all whom it »ay concern.
