WEEKLY HALF-HOLIDAY.

By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, last night. At a conference to fix the weekly half-holiday, held to-night, Thursday was again chosen, an amendment in favor of Saturday only receiving the support of the proposer and seconder. RESOLUTION OF THE CITIES. Afterwards, the Mayor of Christchurch said that, while sympathising with the resolutions re the Continental press, carried at Wellington and Dunedin, he had not thought it necessary to call a public meeting here, as the action of the Government in sending further troops was a sufficient reply, and he wished to assure it that the citizens of Christchurch fully endorsed its action. CONTROL OF TRAMWAYS.

The conference of delegates of the local bodies outside the city interested in the taking over of the tramways, decided in favor of a paid Tramway Board, to be elected on the municipal franchise. The City Council has not fallen in with the views of the other local bodies, as it would like to run the whole tramway system itself, but an attempt will be made to induce it to fall in with the general idea.
