LAND BOARD.
A meeting of the Land Board was held at Gisborne on Saturday morning, there being present : Messrs Goldsmith (Commissioner), in the chair, G. Mattliewson, and Groome. Mr C. A. DeLautour, on behalf of G. Maxwell, applied for an extension of time for taking up residence on sec. 8, block 6, Turanganui, S.D., Willows Estate. The Board had already granted an extension of time, and lie asked for a further extension of six months.—The application was granted. Mr B. R. Brooking wrote asking to lie allowed to surrender his lease of •sec. 14, block 6, Turanganui, S.D., Willows Estate. The section contained 10 acres under cron, being principally barley, potatoes, pumpkins, and maize.—lt was resolved that the surrender be accepted, provided that arrears on the section he paid. Mr C. Thorenscn applied to the Board to remit one year’s rent on his section in the Ngatapa block. There was no road within 12 miles of the section, and the land was poor, being pumice. The neighbors were also dissatisfied witli the state of affairs. The Commissioner said it was not in the power of the Board to remit rent, the only course being to recommend tiie Minister of Lands to remit it, giving cogent reasons, hut he considered the reasons given were not strong enough. He thought the Board could ask the Government to form the road —and most likely it would be continued near to his section by the next year.— It was decided to recommend the Government to push the road on, Mr Matthewson stating that it would he a nice thing to get a petition from
the settlers in favor of the Government pushing on the work. Mr AV. Bennett asked for an oxtension of time of two or three years for tho payment of rent on his section in Nuhaka district, tho road being about fifteen miles
from his section.—The Commissioner stated that the Board could not grant such an oxtension of time, but tho Government should bo approached to extend tho road. —It was finally resolved that an extension of time for six months be granted. An application was received from P. Parono for 500 acres at Mahia.—As the section among others was to be considered by tho Board when throwing open selections, the letter was received.

Annie Howard wrote, claiming for the lease of section 23, block xv., Hangaroa. It was resolved that the applicant be allowed the section on a miscellaneous lease—that is, from year to year, the applicant being a married woman. M. H. Cooper applied for section 47, block xv., Hangaroa, S.D., Tiniroto Village.—The application was approved. An application for the lease of section 45, block xv., Hangaroa, S.D., Tiniroto Village, by L. Cooper, was also approved. The Board resolved to throw open the following lands for selection :—Motu, Block XV., Seo. 4, 471 acres, 11s ; Block XI., Sec. 15, 404 acres, 15s; Sec. 6, 400 acres, 15s; Hangaroa, Block XIV., See. 2, 609 acres, 15s ; Block VIII., Seo. 21, 609 acres, 20s; Opoiti, Block XVI., See. 1, 323 acres, 15s ; Sec. 2, 370 acres, 17s 6d; Sec. 3, 981 acres, 15s; Block XX., See. 1, 610 acres, 15s ; Sec. 2, 554 acres, 20s; Block XI., Sec. 1, 557 acres, 15s ; Nuhaka North, Block XVII., Sec. 4, 554 acres, 20s; Uawa, Block 111., Sec. 1, 277 acres, 40s; Block X., Sec. 1, 42 acres, 40s ; Patutahi, Block XIII., and Haugaroa XVI., 2692 acres, 11s.
