Cheating the Customs.

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) Wellington, last night. A foreigner named Corouna pleaded guilty at the Magistrate’s Court to importing certain packages of boots not corresponding with the entry made at the Customs. Tho goods came from Sydney, and were admittedly shoddy stuff. They were entered by defendant at £l4, and the Department valued them at £9l. Evidence was given by an importer to whom defendant bad sent goods from Austialia, sending with them an import price invoice “to be submitted to the Customs,” and following this up with “selling price invoice” for actual accouut purposes. In one case quoted balmorals were set down in the first invoice at 3s 8d and were put at 9s 3d in the other. The Magistrate imposed a fine of £4O.
