STRANGE DOINGS.
By Telegraph.—Press Association. DUNEDIN, last night. The City Council, by seven votCT: to five, decided to enter into a tfntract with Noyes Bros., of Sydney, for the construction of an electric stsiwu trams for Dunedin and suburbs. The debate was heated and prolonged. The minority contended that to call for public tenders was the only fair plan both to the citizens and to other engineering firms, and that the proposal was a leap in the Uark, and gi.... firm a £IBO,OOO job on demand. Tlie majority contended that the proposal would be cheaper and more expeditious lhe minority then stonewalled the resolutions and sharply examined Noyes Bros, representative, and kept up the debate till half-past five this morning when the motion was carried. Noyes Bros., are, in terms of the contract, to receive ten per cent, on the whole oi works in connection with the electric'trams. tiie
