WELLINGTON NEWS.
FRUIT CROP. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, last night. A few weeks back the prospects of the fruit crop were not very rosy, but recent rains have changed the aspect of things, just as has happened with the grain harvest. In official oircles a good average yield of fruit is now counted upon. Disappointment is, however, felt by agriculturists at the lack of interest shown by some Fruit-growing and Horticultural Societies in connection with requests for information as to the fruit crop. Probably next season a new method of obtaining the desired data will bo required.
PRIMITIVE METHODISTS. The following Probationers of the Primitive Methodist Ministry have successfully passed their examinations : B. Dudley, J. Southern, G. Hunt, J. Featherstone, and T. R. Woolxall. THE SLANDERS.
At the public meeting to protest against the recent foreign libels on British and Colonial troops which will be held tomorrow, the main resolution will be proposed by Mr John Duthie, and seconded by Mr Bruce, who will come down from Rangitikei for the purpose. This resolution will probably be an endorsement of the action of the Imperial Government in regard to the South African war, and will express pleasure at the able refutation by Mr Chamberlain of the attacks on the Imperial forces. A motion will also be moved that a copy of the main resolution be transmitted to the Secretary of State for the Colonies.
