BATHING FATALITIES.

By Telegraph—Press Association. PALMERSTON N., last night. . A young man named Thos. Mayo, son of Mr Joseph Mayo,' late Govern-, meat Pomologist, was drowned while bathing in the Manawatu river last evening. Three other youths bathing with him made ineffectual attempts at rescue. The body was recovered by the police early this morning. WELLINGTON, last night. A lad named Harry Collins, engaged as a moulder’s apprentice in the Government railway workshops at Petone, was drowned in the Halt river yesterday. He was leading in a swimming match, when he suddenly collapsed, and calling out, “ I’m done,” went under. His companion reached the shore exhausted. The body was not recovered. The lad drowned in the Hutt river was named Bruce Munro (not Collins), aged 17, whose parents reside at Blenheim.
