M. Bean, who succeeded M. Fichon as French Minister in Pekin, is taking occasion to emphasiso the French claim to the Protectorate over Roman Catholic missions in China. M. Bean withholds his credentials until the murderers of the two missionaries aro punished, end the status of missionaries in Manchuria is settled.
Sovcn thousand of tho Dowager’s bodyguard and attaches of the Legations havo returned to Pekin.
