Auckland, last night.

Last night, a man named John Burke die! at the District Hospital while under chloroform. Deceased was admitted on November Bth, suffering from stricture, and was operated upon twice. He was again chloroformed yesterday afternoon, in order that a catheter might be used, but the attempt to use the instrument was unsuccessful. Later, Dr Collins, Resident Medical Superintsndpnt, gave j instructions that chloroform should he ; again administered. A couple of minutes j after chloroforming was started, deceased j suddenly collapsed, and efforts were made j to restore the patient.
