FLOURMILLERS’ MONOPOLY.

PREMIER CONSIDERS PUBLIC SHOULD BE PROTECTED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, last night. The corresponding Secretary of the Auckland Trades’ and Labour Council has received the following telegram from the Premier on the subject of the Southern Flourmilling Trust : “ I trust your Council will not hold me responsible for what appears in the Christchurch Press or any other newspapers. I am not in favor of the milling trust or any combine, ’ more especially when the avowed purpose for such is applied to the food supplies of the people. The representations made to me by the trust have been disproved by evidence. I have not at any time made a statement that I was in favor of the milling trust, and I am not, and am still of opinion that protection should be given to the”public by passing necessary legislation.”
