BOWLING.
The Gisborne bowling representatives played a return match with other members of the Club on Saturday alternoon, and on the aggregate were defeated by nino points. Ponsford’s team met Martin, Ainbridgo, Sidebottom, and Dixon (skip), and a ding-dong game resulted in a victory for the former by a point. Coleman s team in the match against Quigley, lumphreys, Ifwcrsen, and Bright (skip), ere not so fortunate, being ten points to cho bad on the twenty-first head. Tho play throughout was of a fairly even character. „ Tho Hastings Bowling Club havo signified their intention to send teams to Gisborne at Easter. “ Fairplay ” writes :—“ There has been a good deal of discussion of late with regard to the teams selected to represent * Gisborno at tho forthcoming tournament, and in several letters which havoappearod in the paper suggestions have been made as to how tho teams might be improved. It is greatly to bo regretted that certain members of the Bowling Club have been so indiscreet as to ventilate any griovance they might consider they have through tho medium of the pres 3, and more especially as they arc doing the two gentlemen who selected the teams a manifest injustice. That I might point this out is my excuse for writing. The committee invited members to give in their names for tho tournament, and when tho time had closed for rocciving entries they selected two skips whom they empowered to pick two teams. The very best choice from the names available was made, and becauso tho teams are beaten in one or two practice matches by two strong teams of players, all of whom had stated their inability to go, there is a great fuss made, and efforts aro made to smash up the teams. The amusjng part of tho pro"V ccodings from an observer’s point of view, is that each member of the Club who has endeavoured to select what he considers the strongest team tho Club can send has included six of the eight who are already included among the representatives. Fault therefore can hardly bo attributed to tho two skips who selected the present teams, and I am pleased to sec that tho committco havo stood by them in regard to tho selection. No doubt when the teams return from Wellington they will bo able to wipe out old scores, and turn the tables on thoir opponents ”
