The Chinese authorities have requested the foreign legations to keep the foreigners off the streets on Tuesday, when the Court returns to Pekin. The Daily Telegraph states that some European powers made representations to Washington, charging America with violating the agreement to prevent Chiua importing munitions of war for two years. Washington denies that there was a breach of faith, and declares that the fault rests with China. AMIABLE DOWAGER. FRIENDLINESS TOWARDS FOREIGNERS. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, Jan. 6. The Dowager Empress undertakes that the Emperor will give audience to foreign Ministers, and she will herself receive the ladies belonging to the various Legations at the earliest moment after arrival. The Court at Pekin will provide a building to enable the ladies to witness the return.
