New Zealand beef, 180 to 220 lbs, fair average quality, ox fores 2ijd, hinds, 4 l-Bd. River Plate crossbred or Merino wethers, heavy and light, 2 11-lfid. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, last night. The Agont-General’s cablegram, dated London, December 21st, states :—“ The mutton market is depressed. Stocks are accumulating; tho averago price is : Canterbury 3jd, Dunedin, Wellington, and Southland Meat (Export Company 3d, other North Island 2:jd; lamb, quiet; Canterbury 4.jd, other brands 4 fd, Australian 4 38d ; many carcases of stale lamb aro being placed on the market. Thero is a better demand for beef; New Zealand hinds 4 l-Bd, fores 2 7-Bd. There is a good demand for butter. The Gothic's butter arrived in good condition. Now Zealand butter is giving satisfaction to ; buyers. The price is 106 s to 109 s. ] Cheese is firm. Tho Gothic's cheese ar- j rived in good condition. The prico is 495. Hemp is dull. Good fair Welling- , ton is at .£33, January to March shipment £3O 10s. Thero are no transactions of moment to record. Buyers have been ■ offering for cocksfoot seed more freelv at 405.”
