FIRE AT WANGANUI.
[By Telegraph—Press Association.) Wanganui, last night. A serious fire occurred in the Avenue, between 6 and 7 this morning. The large two-storey premises, well known as Victoria House, occupied by Buckrell (drapers) and Crichton (boot and shoe store) were completely destroyed. The adjoining premises, including the Bank of New Zealand, had a very narrow escape. The insurance on Buckrell’s stock was £3500, and on Crichton’s stock £1650. (Details of the offices are not available.) The building owned by Peter Bell was insured for £2OOO and £IOOO in the Manchester, and £SOO each in the Commercial Union and Norwich Union. Buekrell’s loss is estimated at £2OOO over the insurance, and Crichton's at £2OOO.
