A strong north-westerly wind, like a blast from a furnace, has been blowing all day. The heat is prostrating, the tlieimomoter registering as high as 104 iu the shade.

Sydney, Dec. 17. A cool southerly set in in the city to-niglit. The heat wave was general. At many country stations the thermometers registered 100 to 115. At llaradine, Krewarrina, and TiLba it was up to 117. At Goodooga it reached 121. Serious damage has been done to tho wheat, tho heat causing it to shell.
There are bush fires in some districts.
