THE KANAKA BILL.
QUEENSLAND WANTS THE
KANAKAS.
By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Brisbane, Dec. 10.
Tho Government havo requested Lord Hopetoun to reservo the Kanaka Bill for the King’s consent, in order that Queensland may havo an opportunity of appealing to the throne against tho measure. Tho Government represent that the Bill is in direct conflict with the principle laid down by Mr Chamberlain as legislation which imposes a disqualification on account of race and colors, and is contrary to tho conceptions guiding British rule throughout tho Empire, and that tho provision inflicts a grievous wrong on the State of Queensland as distinguished from tho rest of tho Commonwealth.
