Rifle Shooting.

The first rifle meeting under the management of the Defence Department commences at Trentham on February 20th. The aggregate matches are still retained on the programme, with the exception of the Marlborough and Ladies’, for which squad shooting mutches at 200 and 300 yards are substituted, both counting for tho aggregate. In order to encourage rifle shooting, tho Defence Minister has agreed to supply ammunition and sighting shots free of cost, one sighting shot only, which cannot be counted in the score. The annual subscription has been struck out, and entries for the matchos reduced. Lee-Enfiells and Martini-Enfield3 are to be used. The camp will be pitched at Trentham, and arrangements made for messing. Railway passes, second-class, will bo issued to all competitors on application to the officers commanding districts.
