At a banquet at the British Chamber of Commerce in Paris Sir Edward Monson, the British Minister to Franco, protested against the audacious and persistent misrepresentation of the methods of British warfare in South Africa. He said that thoughtful, educated foreigners, especially military men of high rank, did not believe them. Brussels, Dec. 11. In the Belgian Chamber of Deputies, Yandervilla, a Socialist member, after quoting Miss Hobhouse and other Anglophobes, asked whether Belgium would join in collective steps on behalf of the Boer women and children in the concentration camps. F. M. Faverean, Minister of Foreign Affairs, replied that they were unable to take the initiative, as England declared she would admit of no intervention. He did not anticipate collective action.
