In the Senate, Mr Drake, PostmasterGeneral, explained the Postal and Telegraph Rates Bill. He said he expected to get thirty-five thousand pounds from newspaper postage, and proposed to devote this and other revenue to meeting a reduction of telegraphic rates which would amount to forty-five thousand pounds. In Committee an amendment was carried extending the shilling telegraphic rate to Tasmania, a proviso relating to the addition of cable charges being struck out.
