THE RAILWAY ACCIDEHT.
[By Telegraph—Press Association. Invercargill, last night. The inquest on the body of Frank Thomas, the plate-layer killed in the collision of a railway tricycle and train, was advanced a stage to-day. Dr Rogers, who attended Fraser, said that he detected no sign of drink on him or deceased. Lawrence Fraser's evidence was taken at the Hospital. He said that he was ganger, and got notice of a special train. H- left Woodlands to inspect the length in »' pan. liT’-went south .Vio'.vo/ iiu»n. Coming back, ho picked up Thomas, and went north to Morton Mains, which lie reached at 10.5. He then set out on the return to Woodlands, travelling about five or six miles an hour. Witness had red lamps in his left hand, and, soon after turning, thought he saw a light at fourteen curve, or about two miles away, and Thomas looked and said he could see nothing, anti that witness must be mistaken. Witness said if it was a train he would see it as it came into the straight on which they were running, but he saw no light whatever. The engine seemed to rise up in front of them, and he could see no light. This was after travelling about a quarterof a mile after he supposed he had seen the train light. The inquest will bo resumed to-morrow.
The Crown Prosecutor, who appears for the Department, to assist the Coroner, said that the Departmen desired tho fullost inquiry into the matter.
