HALF-DOZEN CANDIDATES FOR CAVERSHAH. By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, last night. i The following candidates have been I nominated for the vacant Caversham | seat: Wm. Earnshaw, H. 1). Bedford, \Y. ! L>. Warren, S. Halley, T. Sidev, and j J. J. Mcikle. i Hr J. A. Hiller, M.H.R., was presented to night by friends with a handsome gold chronometer and purse containing 70 sovs, in recognition cf his action in advocating an •• all red ” ocean mail service, and opposing the contract with Spreckc-ls and Co. j Hr P. Hally, the selected labor candidate, 1 addressed a largely attended meeting of Caversham electors to-night, and was well received. He announced himself as a Government supporter. He would uphold the present system of free, secular education. A vote of thanks and confidence was carried by a overwhelming majority.
