MAIL SERVICES.

By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright

Sydney, Dec. 9. The Herald, commenting on the interview with Mr Jas. Mills, manager of the Union Steamship Company, says Mr Mills, recognising tho advantage conferred on the ’Frisco service by three fast modem steamers, hopes to make such terms with tho Canadian Government as will justify the Union Company putting new steamers on the Vancouver line. This will require special encouragement, such as tho Oceanic Company receives from the American Government, but New Zealand seems in a fair way of losing a direct service with both lines, as it is understood Mr SpreckJes has rejected tho New Zealand Government’s mail contract terms. Mr Mills announces that his decision whether to make New Zealand a port of call depends on tho security of New Zealand and Australian contracts. The outlook in tho case of both servicos looks rather disagreeable for Auckland.
