Senator Alacgregor, leader of the Labor Party in tho Federal House of Lords, is a brilliant example of the self-made man. Always troubled with a weak vision, which made it extremely awkward for him to amass knowledge, the energy of the man has brought him to his present proud position. Ho had so little education that, as a boy, he had to work out arithmetical problems in the sand whilst helping his father at work. Born in Scotland, he lived for several years in Ireland, and has walked all over the map of England. During one period of his life he worked at fossil digging in Cambridgeshire, and the knowledge gained was of immense service in the South Australian Legislative Council, and no doubt has technical value in the Senate. Alacgregor’s humour, if not profound, is rather entertaining, and he’s a smart man who can unship him in debate.
