TRADE WITH AFRICA.
MB GOW’S INTERIM REPORT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, v last night. Tho Minister for Industries and Commerce has received an interim report from
Mr Gow, Government Trade Commis
sionor, who left the colony some time * since with the object of fostering trade abroad. Air Gow, writing from Durban on 17th October, informs the Minister that ho has been closely occupied in prosecuting his enquiries into the conditions of the South African market for New Zealand products, and in furnishing information to largo numbers of enquiries. His observations lead him to the emphatic conclusion that South Africa offers an unlimited field for New Zealand enterprise. It is admitted on every hand, ho reports, that the whole country is crying aloud for hotter and cheaper food, and if the demand has been great in tho past, it must necessarily be far greater in the future. In conclusion Mr Gow says that tho need for direct, regular and suitable shipping facilities from New Zealand to South African ports is being forcibly impressed upon him, and as that is a matter of precedent importance in the development of trade relations with that country, bo forwards a report from certain firms for Ministers’ information. Ho is convinced that it is only in London that any definite shipping arrangements can be made.
