Thk weather was delightful yesterday, when the Thursday competition was resumed on Victoria Domain. Whataupoko and West End occupied No. 1 wicket, and most interest centred in this match.
West End effected a surprise by getting t all over their opponents, who were ex- t peeted to win easily, the scores at the close -J of plav reading : Whataupoko -IE ''^ st End 90, Whatapoko batted first, but Rowlands, Hodge, and J. Ferris were the only batsmen who could stand up against the bowling of McConnell, who once mote proved what a really good bowler he i». ( lie captured eight wickets, seven of them being clean-bowled. The Whataupoko total only reached 41. West End then occupied the wickets till close on 0 o clock, when the innings closed for the respectable total of 90. The Andrews, father and son, were responsible for 60 out of the total. J. Andrews, the West End captain, played a tine innings for 32, 111 which his defence was sound, and his cricket correct. W. Andrews maintained the good form he has shown lately, and put 28 together by free and attractn e cricket. McConnell also scored freely, and hit up lb quickly. Gumming t 6) also took a lot of getting out. Fertds and Hodge captured the wickets. We are unablo to give the bowling analysis, as the score-sheets were incorrectly kept. City and Kaiti played on No. 2 pitch. Kaiti, who could only muster six men, batted first, and totalled 00, Gibson being top score with 20. Lewis bowled well, and broke across from leg at times in a most surprising manner. City then batted, ana were all out on call of time for 109. Pino (who is the local Quuife), Neale (who made a fine drive clean out of the ground 1 for 5 off Seymour), Macdonald, and ' Grant all batted well. Porter and Lyttle- ’ ton bowled best for Kaiti.
