[By Telegraph—Press Association.] Invercargill, last night.

.Sir Joseph Ward and a number oi' directors oi the New Zealand Coal and Oil Company visited Orepuki works yesterday. They were pleased with what they saw. At a banquet in the evening the Premier complimented the company on its enterprise, and said the future of the industry depended on the scientific and practical working of the deposits, and the Government, on being satisfied that the products were marketable, but could not bo sold because of outside competitors, would consider further assistance. Sir .Joseph Ward left by special train after the banquet for North. The Premier and Northern Members remained till this morning, arriving in Invercargill at i).4f>, and leaving for North at 11 o’clock.
